The friendly, mixed ability, green spaces of Pittville Park in Cheltenham

Estimated read time 2 min read

Pittville Park is the largest ornamental green space in Cheltenham.  It was first opened in 1825 and is home to the magnificent Grade 1 listed Pump Rooms and stunning lakes, including the boating and fishing areas. English Heritage have awarded Pittville Park itself a Grade 2 listing and in 2016 it was also given a Green Flag award by the Heritage Association.  This beautiful, mixed ability friendly Park has a secure play area with sand, water, swings, slides, integral trampolines, roundabouts and a large bird and small mammal aviary. These extensive Playgrounds Cheltenham are well maintained and cared for by a team of professional gardeners who make sure the flower borders and grassy areas are kept clean and tidy.

This stunning family friendly Park is divided into two sections by the Evesham Road and there is a safe tunnel that leads from the more familiar eastern side (that contains the play park) to the west side that is a more natural environment.  The “lower lake” that is the bigger stretch of water is where fishermen can lower their lines into the clear waters here during the fishing season. This side of the park is perfect for picnics and playing football or hide and seek amongst the trees.

There is a ladies, men’s and disabled toilet located in the Eastern side of the Park close to the playground, and it is a practical, clean and safe place for this necessary provision.
